2010 Artwalk Parade "REZonate"

Friday, May 7th was an AMAZING First Friday Cultural Walkabout! Despite torrential rains, over two hundred people showed up to enjoy the artwork of the 6+1 Art Group (actually 27 members) who are celebrating their 10th year! This show runs through the month of May. Don't forget, the LHCA is now open Saturday's from 11-4pm!
The 6+1 artists very generously provided an impressive array of nibbles and munchies, including a huge three-layer two-flavoured cake in addition to our usual feast put on by Normand Piquette Catering which this month included mini-weiners and perogies!
Also, this month’s FFCW featured two musical performers, classical guitarist Colin Graf and contemporary performer Jerry Prouty. Both have performed at the LHCA before on several occasion and provide wonderful musical accompaniment to First Friday!

TARA HAGAN The Observer Students from St. Francois Xavier learned first-hand this week about the beauty of an original printing press. "They wanted to expand with different forms of art," said Dympna DeVoy, of the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts, who helped nearly a dozen high school students from Grades 9 through 12 try their hands at printmaking for the first time. "We're the only place in the county where you can do this," she said. The fine art printing studio, located in the basement of the Lawrence House, was developed a number of years ago, thanks to a printing press donated by Lambton College. The press allows artists to produce original proof prints of their work. Students create their art on a surface — such as a block of metal, stone, wood or linoleum — from which single or multiple images can be hand printed onto paper using non-automated methods, such as a hand crank.
