The first day of Artwalk Parade workshops were a success! An enthusiastic crew from Shadowland Theatre and Lawrence House volunteers spent a busy day at the new location at 146 N. Christina Street, next to Spoon Lickins.
Playwright James R. Wallen, a former Sarnia resident and author of two novels Boy's Night Out and Her Smoke Rose Up, will be a guest reader during this month's Spoken Word, an open microphone event to be held Friday, May 29 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts, 127 Christina Street South in downtown Sarnia.
The Lawrence House Centre for the Arts has invited Barry Prophet, a composer, percussionist, instrument maker, sculptor, poet and playwright, to exhibit the integrated & media arts installation Dwellings & Incursions: Natural Selection & Community and be Artist in Residence for two weeks during the exhibition from Aug. 7- Aug. 22, 2009.
The Lawrence House Centre for the Arts’ June Artist in Residence Barbara Klunder will be holding workshops in the art of Paper Lantern making during the first week of June. For only $15 per session, you can create an ‘enlightened’ hat! Sessions for beginners and advanced students will be held.
This year’s Artwalk parade is being produced by the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts in cooperation with Toronto’s Shadowland Theatre. The parade is always a fun event enjoyed by all and the Lawrence House is happy to announce that it is inviting public participation in this annual event! For a freewill donation, people are welcome to register for a full two weeks of parade workshops to be held at our satellite location next to 'Spoon Lickin' at 146 North Christina Street beginning on Tuesday, May 26th. Olga Tcherniak returns to present yet another sensational concert in the series that she originated and established. Olga is known as a performer, teacher, workshop clinician and vocal coach in the U.S., Canada, Russia and Israel. She has been heard on CBC radio and local radio and television. Olga was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for her contribution to the cultural life of Sarnia-LambtonCounty. After receiving many standing ovations at the Noon Concert Series, Olga will once again fascinate the noonday audience, while introducing a surprise guest artist.
The performance, titled “Russian Fantasie”, will include selections such as Russian Dance from SwanLake, and Masks from Romeo and Juliet. The Lawrence House Centre for the Arts is proud to present ‘Olga & Friends’

The second set of tiles will be available through silent auction during artwalk weekend. Proceeds of the silent auction will go to La Maison d'Herelle in Montreal.
Saturday, March 21st was an early Easter treat for those who came to learn traditional Ukranian Psyanky egg decorating. Taught by Caroline Berube, we learned wax resist technique and created some beautifully decorated eggs.
