Musica Batteria

Professional percussion duo, Musica Batteria, entertains, educates, and fascinates audiences of all ages with a dynamic repertoire of classical, ragtime, Latin, jazz and light popular favorites. Unique both visually and musically, concerts feature both performers on a vintage rosewood marimba. This concert will showcase beautiful, elegant music, along with a dash of good humor by interacting with their audience!

Olga and Me, Together Again

Olga Tcherniak will return this season to present another fabulous performance featuring some of her exquisite piano repertoire in the Lawrence House Concert Series that she founded. This season, Olga will be together again with soprano and SC4 Music Instructor, Lillian Maley. Olga is known as an outstanding performer, teacher and clinician throughout the United States, Canada, Russia and Israel, and has been heard on CBC radio and local radio and television. Olga was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for her contribution to the cultural life of Sarnia-Lambton County. Olga has agreed to some special requests for piano solos. Welcome back, Olga!

Compañeros de Flamenco

November 19th

Olé! Brought back to the Lawrence House by popular demand, shouts of affirmation and encouragement resound as Flamenco, the passionate music and dance of Spain, is performed. Compañeros de Flamenco is an ensemble of dancers, singers and musicians bringing this vibrant Spanish culture to life. The colorful costumes, the compelling guitar music and the intricate footwork tell the story of Spain’s multicultural heritage. Don’t miss this festive concert!

Jazzy Christmas

Ray Kamalay

Ray Kamalay is going to help the Lawrence House audience celebrate the Yuletide season in a jazzy way. Ray Kamalay started playing professionally in 1974, and is a jazz singer and guitarist. Playing a wide variety of jazz from standards to seasonal favorites, this concert will bring fun and excitement to audiences of all ages. Ray Kamalay is reminiscent of the early 1930's, ‘40’s and 50’s when music was blessed with a heyday of jazz, the likes of which it has not seen since. Ray Kamalay has worked in collaboration with many fine artists, including Joel Mabus, James Dapogny, Johnny Frigo, Betty Joplin, the Chenille Sisters, Jethro Burns and Ralphe and Howard Armstrong.  In 1997, his work with the Armstrongs was nominated for the W. C. Handy Award. Ray’s jazz improvisations will make this holiday a festive and memorable one!

Folias Flute and Guitar Duo

This concert will be the premiere debut of this musical duo to the Lawrence House. Trained in classical, jazz, and tango, the husband and wife duo Carmen Maret and Andrew Bergeron of Folias perform and compose music that blends concert chamber music with folk music, especially dance music from South America. In a review of their three CD releases, Fanfare Magazine writes, "Maret and Bergeron are facile players and possess a fine feeling for Latin music...they draw on tango rhythms and melodies sometimes; at other times they write with a scenic sensitivity ...mysterious...charming... ...evocative."

Pauline and Erik, Mother and Son

Pauline Martin, piano

Cellist Erik Asgeirsson was born in the United States to Canadian and Icelandic parents. Now living in Germany, he speaks three languages.  But he communicates best by way of the universal language - music!  With uncommon musical maturity, this young artist has won rave reviews both for his virtuosic flair and chamber music acumen.  Joined by his mother, pianist Pauline Martin, Asgeirsson spans continents and centuries in an engaging program featuring solo and chamber masterpieces, with at least one fiery showpiece."

Mary Hackstock

Please welcome Mary Hackstock to the Lawrence House Concert Series for her premiere debut performance. This is Mary’s second year as Piano Instructor at St. Clair County Community College in the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Mary, an accomplished pianist, will showcase her musical versatility and explore various musical genres performing piano gems from Brahms to Debussy. This multitalented musician will bring artistic excellence, as well as some unexpected delights to the concert series.
