The Lawrence House participated for the first time in the Kinsman Santa Claus Parade that was held on Saturday Dec. 06th. In partnership with Shadowland Theatre, a host of LHCA volunteers and the many donations of empty water bottles we created a replica of the Lawrence House constructed entirely of recycled materials and LED lighting. The effect was truly magical, reminiscent of an ice palace shimmering in the snow.

The process of the construction was complimented by many curious visitors dropping in to watch, and many people were delighted with the concept and clever use of the materials.

Celebrate Sarnia’s Inspiring Arts Mentors, Teachers and Emerging Artists

A series of exhibits at

The Lawrence House Centre for the Arts

04 Dec, 2008

The First Friday Gallery Walk has developed over the past two years, into a monthly event that the public earmarks on their schedules to attend. It has become a vehicle for artists to network and meet new prospective clients, for the community to be engaged with the arts in a convivial atmosphere, while producing a positive image for the  for the Downtown area that showcases the neighbourhood as THE Arts and Culture District of Sarnia. The incentive was developed with the Galleries downtown in which all participate in a cooperative effort to have a reception, or “opening”of new exhibits. The event takes place on the same evening to promote our lively arts scene in Sarnia. In a very short time, this incentive has proven to be extremely popular with our community. Attendance measured at approximately 150 people visiting each participating gallery over the evening.

The Lawrence House focus this year was introducing a series of Cutting Edge Emerging artists each month. The works have been fresh and vibrant and the openings have been complimented by performances of local musicians during the evening.

This month the Lawrence House welcomes Sarnia Artists Workshop- a group show that will include recent works by Lorna Schmidt, Elizabeth Martiniuk, Rita Viscount, Anthony Wright and many more. The evening will be complimented by a performance of jazz band Dominent 7.
