It is with the greatest sadness that the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts passes on the news of the sudden death of our beloved Floyd Gibson. Floyd had been a volunteer with Sarnia Lambton Arts Council for many years, as well as at the Lawrence House. His involvement within the arts community was immeasurable and we will all miss him.
We are indeed honoured that his show at the Lawrence House with Vivien Kolotylo brought out record setting numbers of people on their opening night, close to 400! This recognition of his work and talent by the community is rich with memories and laughter. The LHCA will honour our friend by renaming the annual Colours Show “The Floyd Gibson Colours Show” Please see the website for a selection of photos of Floyd from the opening in October. There will be a celebration of his life at the Lawrence House in November. We will notify all of the date in the next day or two.
Here are some quotes that have been received that we would like to pass on to all of , as well as details of visitation and funeral arrangements. All of our hearts go out to his family during such a difficult time.
Please remember all the good things that Floyd brought to his many friends, his students and family, as there are so many! He will be a great loss for the LHCA and I am sure that a fitting celebration of his life will be conducted. We pray that at the end he did not suffer and that he has joined his beloved wife whom he missed greatly.
with sadness in my heart,
Malcolm
"I'm so sorry to hear about Floyd. He was definitely my favourite and kept me laughing everyday, along with the hilarious emails. I couldn't think of a better way for him to go....and its peaceful knowing that he didn't have to part without his beautiful wife for long..."

Floyd's Artist Statement
The world around us is a place of beauty for those who stop to see. From large vistas to intimate details, I try to focus on the beauty that I observe and to communicate that in what I paint. The vibrant colours and luminosity of watercolours, which as so suited for depicting colour and light, make it my favourite medium, but I’m learning how to express myself with acrylics as well. Our land, with its glorious and varied scenery, makes Canadians as a people aware of the resplendence nature here and wherever we travel, and has been a motivation for me as an artist.
The world around me, both here in Canada and in my travels, is my inspiration to paint. The beauty of the landscape and of the flora and fauna and the people I meet are all able to capture my interest and imagination. Working in watercolours, with its transparency, light and glowing colours is admirably suited to the way I want to communicate what I see, while the vibrant hues of acrylics help me express myself in new ways.
